REAL ESTATE ATTORNEY

ZACHARY D. SCHORR

“For Love Of
The Argument”

By Anthony Calderon

For Real Estate Attorney Zachary Schorr, it’s all about winning. Let other lawyers push papers, Atty. Schorr’s more comfortable jumping in court with both feet – way out in the deep end – and battling for his clients; but make no mistake about it, Atty. Schorr is always respectful to opposing counsel, he’s just highly skilled in the fine art of…arguing.

HW: “I read that you did a lot of debating in high school, so from the very beginning you were attracted to arguing – I know that sounds funny to say.”

ATTORNEY ZACHARY D. SCHORR: “Well, you have to enjoy arguing if you’re going to argue for a living, which is what I do. But, my initial reason for wanting to become a lawyer was my interest in politics. I knew a lot of influential politicians were also Attorneys, and I knew that knowing the law would be beneficial to whatever I ultimately decided to do.”

HW: “Now, in addition to Real estate Law, you also do Business Litigation, and you have an interesting way of looking at your connection with your clients who are business owners in the sense that, as the owner of your own Law Firm, with various people working for you, you’re essentially a business owner yourself.”

ATTY. SCHORR: “That’s right. Being a business owner myself gives me the ability to give my clients’ legal advice that also makes sound business sense.”

HW: “I read about the case you took with the senior citizen in Hollywood who was losing her house and you helped her keep it.”

ATTY. SCHORR: “That was just one of those cases I couldn’t turn down. It involved an 82 year old woman who was fraudulently convinced to sell her multi-unit apartment building in West Hollywood for far below the fair market value and on unreasonable lending terms. I successfully defended her in the lawsuit, which was aimed at enforcing the sale. She lived in one of the units and depended on the others for income. So, not only did we save her house, but we also saved her income. The best part about my profession is being able to help people in that way.”

HW: “Why do you think you’ve been so successful as an Attorney?”

ATTY. SCHORR: “I think it’s because before I take any case I talk with my client and ask them, ‘What do you want to get out of this?’ Once I know what they want to accomplish, then we start planning for it, which means thinking 6 steps down the line and anticipating the repercussions of every move we make. Remember, winning a trial really comes down to whose case is more prepared in court.”

HW: “So, there’s no such thing as over-thinking or overanalyzing your case.”

ATTY. SCHORR: “Not if you want to win.”

And win he does…
