Whether any of us are aware of it or not, at all times during our day to day activities we’re guarded by a very slim barrier that shields us from being abused or exploited. It’s a lean buffer containing the stark black and white facts of law, but mixed with compassion and understanding to produce a more evenhanded color of justice -- one that takes into consideration the “human” element of any given situation... This metaphorical thin “Gray” line I’m talking about is our American Lawyer in general, and Attorney Laura Gianni’s Pharmaceutical Litigation Law Firm specifically.
Unless you’ve been a victim of harmful medication irresponsibly sold to the public, then you really don’t know how valuable Lawyers like Laura Gianni are -- but you should, because it’s due to Att. Gianni’s valiant efforts and other Pharmaceutical Litigators that big drug companies now think twice before stocking our local pharmacies with medications like Vioxx or Fen-Phen -- two of the many prescription drugs that have destroyed the lives of tens of thousands of people; and many of these victims looking for relief from their suffering make up a large portion of Att. Gianni’s clients.
HW: “To say you’re fighting the ‘good fight’ by taking on these huge drug corporations would be the understatement of the year -- when did you know you wanted to be a Lawyer?"
ATTORNEY LAURA GIANNI: “Really, for as long as I can remember. When I was six I knew I wanted to help people who needed it. Even in school I always gravitated towards people who seemed to be having a hard time with other kids, and I befriended them.”
HW: “Wow -- my ‘gravitational pull’ in school never attracted people like you; I feel cheated... Now, you’ve focused on pharmaceutical litigation from the very start of your career; why are you so passionate about this field?”
ATT. GIANNI: “I think because I see myself in many of the people who come into my office, meaning I grew up being very trusting and never really questioned doctors; if I had been prescribed some of the medication that’s now been proven un-safe and removed from stores, I would have taken it, so I have a very strong connection with my clients.”
HW: “What’s the biggest obstacle you face in getting justice for the people you represent?”
ATT. GIANNI: “Tort Reform... Insurance companies are basically trying to cut off the rights of consumers to hold medical companies liable for products they sell to the public. Michigan has a law right now that prohibits citizens from taking pharmaceutical corporations to court for medication that’s known to be harmful and even fatal.”
HW: “I didn’t know that -- so, what can we do to protect ourselves from that happening in our State?”
ATT. GIANNI: “Well, we need to make sure we’re all writing letters to our State Representatives expressing our opinions on not taking away our Constitutional rights. Every voice counts and does make a difference”
HW: “Alright, if any of our readers think they might be suffering an adverse effect from some kind of prescription or over-the-counter medication, what should they do?”
ATT. GIANNI: “The first thing they should do is see a doctor and find out exactly what’s wrong, and if their doctor believes that there is a connection with their illness and a drug they’ve been taking, then they can come see me, and I’ll do everything I can to help them.”
I left Attorney Gianni’s gorgeous Pacific Palisades office and drove down the PCH enjoying our magnificent ocean to my right, and feeling a renewed sense of security, having just met one of the many Sentinels we have in this City of Angels...
